EA SPORTS FC 24 heralded a new era without FIFA, and FC 25 further established the successor brand. The soccer simulation season was a rollercoaster ride: last fall, it wasn’t just a few VBL eSports players who felt they had reached “rock bottom.”

A major gameplay update sparked euphoria in the winter – which flattened out again in the weeks that followed. So much so that EA SPORTS had to deny a “shadow patch” due to many rumors circulating in the community

EA suffered financial losses – to the point of adjusting its annual forecast. With FC 26, everything is set to change, at least according to the trailer. The developer has listened to the fans. But what is already known?

When will FC 26 be released?

FC 26 will be released worldwide on September 26. The Ultimate Edition offers early access starting September 19. EA SPORTS is thus continuing its tradition of releasing the new installment on the last Friday of September – or one week earlier.

On which platforms?

Like its predecessor, FC 26 will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, Switch 2, Amazon Luna, and PC. It is not yet known whether there will be a mobile version, but it is likely.

Depending on the hardware, some new features may not be available. The fully updated gaming experience will probably only be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. System requirements and storage size have not yet been announced.

How much does FC 26 cost?

The Ultimate Edition of FC 26 costs €110 for PlayStation and Xbox, up from €100 a year ago. However, until August 26, a ten percent discount could be added via EA Play. The Standard Edition has also become more expensive for PlayStation and Xbox: €80 instead of €70.

The PC versions cost ten euros less each, and the versions for the old Nintendo console cost 20 euros less. Those who want an edition for the Switch 2 will have to pay 70 euros (Standard) or 90 euros (Ultimate). As expected, the much-cited community hope for a free-to-play title has been dashed for another year.

Who is on the cover?

The cover of the Standard Edition features Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala. The Bayern Munich pro is the first German to appear on the packaging since Marco Reus in FIFA 17. This development has been made possible by a new partnership between EA SPORTS and the Munich-based club.

The cover of the Ultimate Edition has also been officially announced: Zlatan Ibrahimovic graces the front of the slightly more expensive version. This is quite remarkable, given that the Swede was involved in a public licensing dispute with EA SPORTS just a few years ago.

Who will be commentating on FC 26?

The German commentary duo Jan Platte and Florian Schmidt-Sommerfeld will also be commentating on FC 26. This means that there will be no repeat of the upheaval that preceded FC 25, when EA SPORTS parted ways with Frank Buschmann and Wolff-Christoph Fuss on less than amicable terms.

It is still unclear whether Esther Sedlaczek will return. The sports journalist has been part of the virtual broadcast team every year since FIFA 21.

Clubs, leagues, and stadiums

EA SPORTS is bringing the Allianz Arena back to FC. The Munich stadium was last realistically recreated in FIFA 19 – the exclusive licensing agreement with Konami recently expired. EA SPORTS seized the opportunity and secured a partnership with the German record champions.

Some BVB fans, on the other hand, have been worried about their Westfalenstadion in FC 26 – EA SPORTS is no longer a “Champion Partner” of Borussia Dortmund. However, both the developer and the DFL have now confirmed that Signal Iduna Park will be authentically featured in the game.

The licensing issue regarding clubs has recently arisen primarily in Italy: FC 25 will have to do without AC Milan, Inter Milan, Lazio Rome, and Atalanta Bergamo. AS Roma and SSC Napoli, on the other hand, have returned. The outcome of the next round in the battle for authentic Serie A clubs is still open.

Four regional league teams will be promoted to the 3rd division and thus to the soccer simulation in Germany. The three direct promoted teams in 2024/25 will come from the West, Southwest, and Bavaria regional leagues. The promoted teams are: MSV Duisburg, TSG Hoffenheim II, and 1. FC Schweinfurt 05.

There is no need to worry that major leagues such as the Bundesliga, Premier League, or La Liga could be missing from FC 26. The contract between EA SPORTS and DFL runs until 2027, and the developer is now even the title sponsor of the Spanish top flight.

Gold instead of silver: These stars are set for upgrades in FC 26

With more than 30 competitions, 120 stadiums, 700 teams, and 19,000 players, EA SPORTS had collected a lot of licenses for FC 25. It is unlikely that too many of these will be lost. It will be exciting to see whether the 2026 World Cup will be authentically represented in the new game.
